I worked at The Home Depot full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    The health benefits were decent

    Cons

Unconfirmed leads were a regular occurrence. You could frequently drive over and hour only to find there was no one home. Prospects are allowed to book their appointment online with no one prequalifying the appointment nor the project. Many, many times you would drive an hour only to find out it was a project HD would not do. You are not allowed to contact the prospect yourself prior to the appointment to... confirm if they would be home or inquire about the scope of the project. Though you'd be an idiot not to. Best way to do that was to call just to let them know that you might be a couple of minutes late, then maybe get a conversation going about their project. Even if you sold jobs it was a maybe at best that they would be completed. The company can't provide enough labor to handle the volume of sales. That is because absolutely every ounce of labor is subcontract workers. You'll have customers overwhelming you with calls to see when their project will be started.

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Strong growing company, Lots of talent at all levels. Company is well known in the industry, better than average benefits. Strong culture and values. Promotes from within organization. Great use of tech to lead industry. Never boring or down time

    Cons

Does not pay well for the amount of work required. Very poor work life balance for salaried reps. weekly work hours can easily exceed 65 hours. Difficult to meet all the demands from a big brother/micro management team. no matter how hard you work it is never good enough.- No upper level management cares to improve or simplify processes. Forced to work with accounts that should not be in our portfolio and then... punished for not making sales plan-Sales reps do not get recognized for bringing in new customers or sales unless they are put into a fixed portfolio controlled by upper management. (this can be millions)

    Advice to Management

Listen to your associates as they are in the trenches face to face with your customers. Provide support and programs that helps team drive additional business instead of micro managing the CRM process and day. Let sales reps determine own portfolio and get paid for the business they work hard to bring in.-Consider pay vs sales plan. understand that your associates need to have time outside of work with their... families as the workload is not conducive to a good work life balance.

I worked at The Home Depot full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Somewhat decent benefits, 15% discount on stock purcases

    Cons

Military mentality. Don't know how to handle people who think slightly outside the box. No loyalty to employees, even those with many years of service.

    Advice to Management

Figure out a way to better leverage older, more experienced individuals as employees

I have been working at The Home Depot part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Mostly very pleasant customers and good coworkers. Flexible scheduling for part-time.

    Cons

Corporation bases daily staffing on sales from one year ago that date- not realistic as it leads to poor coverage of departments (if sales low that day last year) on very busy days and results in unhappy customers. Minimal chances of advancement within company. Wages are low for the amount of work the associates perform; no financial incentive to work towards fork lift and machine licenses despite the... responsibilities they require.

    Advice to Management

Please come out of the office once in a while- get to know us as people and as hard workers. The words "thank you" sometimes mean more to us than you might know. It would be nice to hear them more often.
